A Legacy of Light
Rufai Kasim is a Ghanaian–American entrepreneur and the founder of CarloVan Group, a holding company building ventures in security, social impact and youth employment across Ghana and West Africa.
Raised between Ghana and the United States, Rufai studied criminal justice and began his entrepreneurial journey in fashion and e-commerce, working with high-profile artists and entertainers. His life took a dramatic turn when, while helping facilitate the purchase of a house in Accra, he was set up and robbed at gunpoint in Kumasi. The attack left him with serious injuries and PTSD, but it also revealed to him how vulnerable many families and business owners are.
Instead of walking away, Rufai turned that trauma into a mission. He founded CarloVan Tech, a security technology company that designs and installs alarms, CCTV, access control and solar-powered surveillance to protect high-end residences, businesses, public figures and diaspora families. To extend that impact beyond private security, he created CarloVan Foundation Ltd, a nonprofit that supports vulnerable communities, students, flood-affected families and petty offenders with solar lighting, relief items, education and rehabilitation programmes, often in partnership with organizations such as Crime Check Foundation, Winnergy and Afrikicks.
Building on this work, he is now creating CV Connect (MyCVConnect), Ghana’s first 100% verified job platform, which uses biometric ID verification and AI-powered matching to connect verified young talent with trusted employers.
Rufai also serves as a Steering Committee Member of the Global Wealth Forum, representing the organization in the United States and helping connect global investors with high-impact opportunities in Africa. In addition, he works with former Mauritian President H.E. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim on Small Scale Mining Africa, promoting responsible mining and women’s economic empowerment.
Across all his work, Rufai’s message is simple: your greatest pain can reveal your purpose—and that purpose can be built into systems that protect and uplift others.

Kwame Story
"Before the solar lights came to our school, I used to study under the dim light of a kerosene lamp. It was hard to concentrate, and my grades suffered. Now, with the bright solar lights, I can study for as long as I want. I feel like my dreams are within reach. I want to become a doctor and help people in my village. Thank you, Carlo van Foundation, for giving me a brighter future."
Kwame, Student from Kenya
Hassan's Entrepreneurial Journey
"The solar panels provided by Carlo van Foundation have changed my life. I run a small shop in the village, and before, I struggled with power outages. With the solar energy, my shop stays open longer, and I can serve more customers. I've been able to expand my business and even employ a few locals. It's not just about the lights; it's about creating opportunities for everyone in the community."
- Hassan, Entrepreneur from Tanzania
